Tree Of Redemption?

Asked by onthestack 13 years ago

As soon as your life hits 0, do you automatically lose the game or can you use Tree of RedemptionMTG Card: Tree of Redemption to save the day?

Players whose life totals are at 0 or less lose the game as a state-based action. There is no time at which a player at 0 life could activate an ability, much less resolve one.

The reason for this is because you have to have priority to cast a spell or activate an ability, but state based actions are checked and executed right before any time a player would receive priority.

They're right. You can't do it. Hitting zero is an automatic win for the opponent and zero life is a state. You also can't use any cards of effects that would make you gain life as you are alreasy dead. However, you could use its ability on the stack as a response to a spell that kills you, such as incinerate. However, he can't help you after you calculate battle damage.

Think of it this way.

You're dying. A doctor 10 feet from you has the medicine (Tree of RedemptionMTG Card: Tree of Redemption) that will save your life, but by the time he walks over to you and injects it in you, you're dead. It's not going to make you come back to life.
