Theros Purphoros creature trigger
Asked by DJSeras 11 years ago
If I have Purphoros, God of the Forge on the field and I play Akroan Horse , would it trigger his 2 damage per opponent ability? or would the ETB effect be a replacement and immediately jump it to my opponents side of the battlefield?
Akroan Horse has to ETB for its ability to trigger, and Purphoros, God of the Forge triggers on creatures entering the battlefield.
Purphoros still triggers and would deal 2 damage to your opponents.

The first ability of Akroan Horse is a triggered ability (starts with "when/whenever/at"), not a replacement effect. The Horse does enter the battlefield under your control after its spell resolves, and this will cause both its own ability and the ability on Purphoros, God of the Forge to trigger. Since you control both triggers you get to choose the order to put them onto the stack, but in most cases that doesn't matter. Purphuros' ability doesn't care if you still control the creature when it resolves so the end result is always that one opponent gets the Horse and every opponent takes 2 damage.

Also, each creature that you get while your opponent controls the horse will cause 2 more damage. It's a nice combo.

Well, the Theros release notes don't say anything specific and the Gatherer doesn't have anything posted so nothing is official as of yet.
My initial thought is it only triggers when it enters the battlefield, so it enters on your side first AND THEN goes to your opponent.
So it SHOULD trigger
