Tempt with Immortality and ETB effects

Asked by CamperCarl00 11 years ago

If my opponent casts Tempt with Immortality and I choose to retrieve a Fiend Hunter from the graveyard, can I choose the second creature that my opponent brings back as the target? Is it that I don't have to address a target until after the Tempt with Immortality finishes resolving? Or do I have to choose a legitimate target right away?

ETB triggers won't take place until Tempt with Immortality finishes resolving. When they do trigger, your Fiend Hunter will see at least two viable targets which had been returned to the battlefield along with it.

After each opponent has decided, the effect happens simultaneously for each one who accepted the offer. Then, the effect happens again for the caster a number of times equal to the number of opponents who accepted.

Since new abilities can't go on the stack in the middle of a spell resolving, it won't be until the spell has completely resolved, and all the creatures are on the battlefield, that their ETB triggers will go onto the stack.

You will be able to target one of the later creatures with your Fiend Hunter
