Tapping creatures multiple times

Asked by Pwnengine 13 years ago

I asked a similar question a couple days ago about tapping tapped creatures. (For example useing Evolution Vat .

My question is.. if all activated simulatneously could I use a number of effects/abilities all at once using the same creature.

For exampleHave a Sea Scryer be enchanted with card:Lavamancer's Skill and use Springleaf Drum and Evolution Vat all at the same time so i get:+1/+1 on Sea Scryer1 colourless mana1 any colour manaDeal 1 damage to target creature or player

I think that would be bending the rules possibly past breaking point? And if not how can I bend them further? :P lol

What you need to understand is cost vs. effect. With Sea Scryer , card:Lavamancer's Skill and Springleaf Drum the tap is part of the cost of the ability. With Evolution Vat it's part of the effect.

You cannot tap a single creature to pay a cost for multiple effects, just like you cannot sacrifice a single creature to multiple effects.

You can use any of the first three in conjunction with the Evolution Vat .

An activated ability is of the form "[cost]: [effect]." Whenever you activate an activated ability, any and all activation costs for it must be paid, and the payment for one ability is independent of the payment for any separate spell or ability.

Since tapping Sea Scryer is part of the activation cost of both of Sea Scryer's abilities, card:Lavamancer's Skill's conferred ability, and Springleaf Drum 's ability, you must choose which one you will activate. Once Sea Scryer is tapped, you may not tap it again for another effect without first untapping it, and you may not use that single tap for multiple abilities.

Evolution Vat would tap Sea Scryer as part of the resolution of its ability, so you may activate it regardless of whether Sea Scryer is tapped or not. Note that if you want to use one of the other listed abilities in conjunction with Evolution Vat's ability, you must activate that ability prior to the resolution of Evolution Vat's ability. After that, the creature will be tapped and thus not available for you to tap for another effect.
