Stuffy doll, trample, and who dies first?
Asked by Husky 11 years ago
I was playing in a game of magic the other night and it came down to the fact that I had two Stuffy Doll s on the field and my opponent had a line of 4 11/11 creatures (I can't remember what they were, but they were all on the ground) which meant that when he attacked I could only block two. so naturally I would with both stuffy dolls, but the question came up of who would lose first? Due to stuffy doll's ability my opponent would receive 22 damage directly to him, but I wouldn't be able to block the other 22 damage either and we didn't know how to continue.
It was also brought up that during my opponents turn he had the opportunity to give his 11/11 creatures trample had he not previously used up all of his available sources of mana. It made me wonder what would happen if they were given trample and I still blocked with the Stuffy Dolls? because stuffy doll is a 0/1 indestructible creature, would we he have only been able to deal 1 damage back for each creature that he blocked and the rest of the damage gone over and at me? Or because of his indestructibility would any of it still had come over?

Stuffy Doll 's ability is triggered, so it has to use the stack. When combat damage is done, you are dealt 22 damage and lose the game as a state-based action before your Stuffy Doll s' abilities can even go on the stack.
To address your other question: The rules for trample state that you need to assign lethal damage to each blocker before you can assign any to the player or planeswalker. Damage assignment doesn't account for things like protection or indestructible, so the 11/11s could assign 1 damage to Stuffy Doll and 10 to you.
