Storm, rebound, forcast and cypher for Heroic trigger

Asked by Arnny1212 11 years ago

Epochalyptik says..."Heroic triggers (heroic is a triggered ability; it can't be activated) when you cast a spell that targets your source permanent.

Cipher instructs you to cast the copy of the card. Therefore, heroic will trigger. The ruling you read pertains to effects that merely copy something without instructing you to cast it. In cases like those, the copy is not cast. Therefore, heroic won't trigger."

So based on that logic, for a storm card like Ground Rift , would it not trigger the heroic ability of the same creature more than once but can trigger other heroic creatures... or can trigger it on the same creature more than once?

I'm not 100% certain with the ability Storm and Heroic triggers.

I think Rebound is self explanitory that it will trigger heroic again because it would cast the spell for free... ex Emerge Unscathed how it's worded based on what was said by Epo.

As for forcast i don't think it would trigger at all if i was to reveal it, because i am not casting it but using its ability... ex Steeling Stance .

i just want to see what more i can do to enhance the triggers of the heroic ability for my deck Heroic path to immortality

Storm creates copies of a spell, but the copies are never cast. Therefore, storm copies can't trigger any heroic abilities.

Rebound specifically says you may cast the exiled card, so rebounded spells can trigger heroic.

You are correct about forecast (except for the spelling). Forecast is an activated ability, so it can't trigger heroic.

the key word is cast. does ground rift say the word cast on it? no.

heroic only triggers when you cast a spell, not when you merely copy it.

Storm copies won't trigger heroic.

For storm, I don't believe the copies will trigger heroic. The copies are created on the stack and you aren't casting them, so even if they targeted the heroic creature you wouldn't meet the criteria of "whenever you cast a spell that targets.. "

The other two mechanics I believe you have correct. With rebound if you cast Emerge Unscathed from your hand and targeted the heroic creature that clearly meets the criteria because it doesn't matter if the spell resolves or not, just that you cast it and target the creature. The rebound effect would also then trigger heroic as your given the option of casting it from exile. Your also right about forcast, it's an activated ability, and would not trigger heroic since abilities like this are activated and not cast. Also of note, your example of Steeling Stance wouldn't trigger the heroic ability if it were cast for its regular cost because it does not target.

yeah, i understood that, which was why i didn't ask about that but it's good to answer incase if others are not 100% sure about the function of Heroic triggers.

Well this has been educational. feel free to critic my deck.

yeah you seem to have a pretty good grasp of how heroic works, unlike a lot of people based on some of the questions I've seen asked. I just thought I'd point out that part just in case though, because you never know. Sometimes even if you fully understand something it's easy to overlook something like that because it will effect the heroic creature, it just doesn't target it.
