Snapcaster Mage and Arc Blade
Asked by Arachnarchist 13 years ago
Let's say I try to play Arc Blade (or the other 4 recurring future sight spells) and my opponent counters it, sending it to my graveyard. If I give it flashback using the Snapcaster Mage and it resolves, after being exiled will it come back three turns later?
The only reason I'm thinking it might is because of the unearth rulings with temporary exiling.

After doing some research, it appears that the consensus is that flashback does indeed work with Arc Blade and its relatives.

yes, because exiling the card is part of the spell.

I'm about 90% sure on this answer.
Flashback only cares if the card would go somewhere other than exile. Since Arc Blade goes into exile with three time counters, flashback's rules allow it to be removed from the stack in this manner. Your flashbacked Arc Blade (and any other recurring Future Sight spells) will fall into its suspend cycle.
702.32a Flashback appears on some instants and sorceries. It represents two static abilities: one that functions while the card is in a player's graveyard and the other that functions while the card is on the stack. "Flashback [cost]" means "You may cast this card from your graveyard by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost" and "If the flashback cost was paid, exile this card instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack." Casting a spell using its flashback ability follows the rules for paying alternative costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2eg.
