Skirk Fire Marshal vs Platinum Emperion

What happens if Player A uses Skirk Fire Marshal's ability and Player X has a Platinum Emperion in play? Would Player X take 10 damage, or would that be prevented before the Platinum Emperion dies?
Platinum Emperion changes the result of damage being dealt to it's controller - it doesn't prevent damage. That means that 10 damage will be dealt to the Emperion and Player X simultaneously, however Player X won't lose 10 life from that. Then, as a state-based action, Platinum Emperion will die because of the damage.

Platinum Emperion doesn't prevent damage. It just changes the outcome of damage.
The ability will deal 10 damage to everything simultaneously. Platinum Emperion Will be destroyed afterward as a state-based action, but because it's alive when you are dealt damage, your life total won't change.
