Runic Armasaur ruling
Asked by gregroth12 6 years ago
I was watching my two friends have a nice battle of dino vs vampire and for Runic Armasaur his effect "Whenever an opponent activates an ability of a creature or land that isn't a mana ability, you may draw a card." does that trigger everytime a vampire puts a +1/+1 counter on another vampire and if so would they only draw a card for the first activation of the counters or would it be everytime? also does that effect trigger when something transforms?

It depends on what kind of ability is adding the +1/+1 counters. There are three general types of abilities in Magic: activated, triggered, and static.
- Activated abilities are always written in the form of "[cost] : [effect]". This is the only kind of ability that Runic Armasaur can trigger from
- Triggered abilities are always written to start with one of the words "when", "whenever", or "at"
- Anything else is some kind of static ability
Also, a "mana ability" is an ability that produces mana, doesn't have targets, and isn't a loyalty ability of a planeswalker.
