Relentless dead combo
Asked by WyoCFH 9 years ago
So I'm working on this new deck idea and I thought "how great would Mirror Mockery combo with Nantuko Husk and Relentless Dead?". I'm falling into the question of weather or not a copy produced by Mirror Mockery + Relentless Dead would trigger it's abilities when I sacrifice it to Nantuko Husk after declaring attackers for combat. Technically the copy would die and enter the graveyard before it diminishes into nothing. Therefore shouldn't I be able to pay it's 3rd ability to return a zombie from my graveyard. I could use a little clarification on if this is possible.

A token goes to the graveyard when it is sacrificed. This allows it's death triggers to go on the stack before the token ceases to exist. So you would get two triggers, one that allows you to pay to attempt to return something that doesn't exist back to your hand and fail, and one that lets you pay
to cheat a Zombie into play.
So it works exactly like you think it would.

Both GearNoir and lemmingllama, thank you for your reply. I was just looking for a bit of reassurance, because of all the fine line details that go into comprehensive ruling. Also GearNoir would you be able to direct me to the Q&A forum. I didn't have any luck finding it.

WyoCFH here's a link: Rules Q&A
The link is at the top of each Tapped.out page in the "action bar".
It says Rules Q&A

Since this is Q&A, you also have to select an answer to your question so the question will be removed from the active questions queue.

This should be in the Q&A forum I think.
Gatherer rulings:
Relentless Deads last two abilities trigger at the same time and can be put on the stack in either order. The ability put on the stack first will be the last to resolve.
You decide whether to pay for each triggered ability as it resolves. If you do, the rest of that abilitys effect happens before any player may take actions.
You are correct that the token would cease to exist, but Relentless Dead's ability only checks to see if Relentless Dead died and since Mirror Mockery creates an exact copy that you are immediately saccing, I would assume you can pay the mana costs as if it were Relentless itself.
