Regenerate and Lifelink

Asked by Hiding 12 years ago

If a creature gets regenerated, but is hit by something with lifelink, does the player with lifelink get hp? i wasn't sure because regenerate is said to prevent damage. Also if the creature doesnt actually die but has a regeneration shield does it still prevent damage?

Regenerate doesn't prevent damage. Quite the opposite; regeneration shields kick in to save something from being destroyed, often as the result of lethal damage.

Regeneration shields last until they are applied to regenerate something or until they wear off (in the case of temporary regen shields).

If something with lifelink deals damage to something with a regeneration shield, the controller of the lifelinker will gain that much life regardless of whether or not the other creature was regenerated.

Regenerate doesn't prevent damage. It just removes the regenerated creature from further combat. For example, if a 2/2 creature with regenerate attacks and gets targeted by Shock , it gets regenerated (assuming you pay the cost), becomes tapped, and is removed from combat.

Similarly, if that 2/2 blocks a 2/2 with first-strike or double-strike, the regenerate effect taps it and removes it from combat before it would get a chance to deals it damage back to the attacker.

but if a creature with lifelink blocks a creature without first strike or double strike and is regenerated, then the creature with lifelink's control gains life, right?

Yes. Lifelink gains you life at the exact moment the creatures deals its damage. It doesn't use the stack.
