Redirect

Asked by Syinide 13 years ago

How exactly does RedirectMTG Card: Redirect work? It doesn't state instant or sorcery spell. It just says target spell. An when anything is being cast it is considered a spell. So can I technically steal a creature when they cast it?

A creature spell doesn't have a target, and RedirectMTG Card: Redirect doesn't cause you to gain control of the spell. It works exactly as worded - you target a spell. On resolution of Redirect, if that spell has any targets, you may reselect new targets for that spell. If it has no targets, Redirect does nothing.

You could use it to make one of your opponents aura's target one of your creatures, or one of their creatures. That is one use of the wording 'target spell' instead of 'target instant or sorcery spell'. There are other uses, but the point is that there is a reason it can target any spell with one or more targets.
