Question regarding Karador and it's ability.
Asked by BreadManDan 10 years ago
My question is about Karador, Ghost Chieftain .It's ability states, "Karador, Ghost Chieftan costs 1 less to cast for each creature card in your graveyard. The original casting cost is B/G/W + 5, if it has died once at returned to the command zone it's cost would now be B/G/W + 7, if there were 6 creatures in my graveyard would it now cost B/G/W + 1?? I guess basically my question is does the ability affect the commander death penalty? Thanks for any insight, I'm currently looking at turning my Teneb deck to a Karador deck but want to make sure I fully understand Karador.DSHoyt

So by that, I am correct in understanding that the ability does in fact reduce the commander penalty?

He said yes and then quoted something that said to calculate increases including the command zone penalty before applying the reduction. I am unsure how much clearer he could have been. Just so there is no confusion:
Yes, the ability does reduce the commander penalty.

While I appreciate the sarcasm and the general tone of your comment, I was looking for confirmation is all as I was told before that it did not count towards the commander penalty. So there is no confusion:Thanks so much

He wasn't being sarcastic, he was being frustrated with the fact that an official Wizards ruling stated right it in "including the one based on the number of times you've cast Karador from the command zone" and then you asked for confirmation that it includes the one based on the number of times you've cast Karador from the command zone.

No reason to be frustrated with a question that he wasn't forced to answer.

It's a quirk of the Q&A community on this site.
There's a certain collection of frequent question-answerers who are all well versed in the game rules, and who are careful where appropriate to provide either direct quotes from gatherer or direct quotes from the Comprehensive Rulebook.
There've been people who come into Q&A, ask a question, and either demand confirmation from "A real judge" or "At least 3 people" and whatnot, and it just tends to rankle some of the users here. I don't think anybody has or had anything against you personally, it was just in that same school of thing which bothers some people. I think it read like you were saying "I see that you answered it, I just don't think your answer is good enough" rather than "Okay, I think I see what you're saying, but I just want to make sure."

I never asked for a judge or confirmation by more people. Simply wanted to make sure I understood what I was being told. And honestly I appreciate the help. Just don't see a reason for sarcastic tones when I simply came for help.

Yes. Always check Gatherer for frequently-asked rulings on a card, like this one:
