Question regarding Cryptoplasm and Myr Propagator
Asked by apocguy 14 years ago
If I copy Myr Propagator with Cryptoplasm will and then use the Myr Propagators activated ability will my subsequent Myr Propagator tokens have "At the beginning of your upkeep, you may have Cryptoplasm become a copy of another target creature. If you do, Cryptoplasm gains this ability."?
Essentially what I am asking is if I can propagate tokens that will have the innate ability to copy.
If it is able to work my plan is to copy Myr Propagator and then use its activated ability to spam token copies that can then become other creatures (probably Darksteel Juggernaut).

Zungx is correct. The underlying reason for this is because a copy also takes into account any copy effects the original is subject to. Because Cryptoplasm 's extra ability is added by its copy effect, any copies of it that are made will also be of whatever it's copying plus that ability.
706.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original objects characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, card type, subtype, supertype, expansion symbol, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by as . . . enters the battlefield and as . . . is turned face up abilities that set characteristics, and by abilities that caused the object to be face down. Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.

From official Gatherer rulings on the Propogater:
"If the copy ability of a creature (such as Cemetery Puca , perhaps) makes it become a copy of Myr Propagator and gain another ability, the token created by this creature's ability will be a Myr Propagator with that additional ability."

So, since the cryptoplasm is a propogator with the changing ability, the token will also be a cryptoplasm with the changing ability.
