question about dimir infiltrators transmute ability

Asked by student-of-life 12 years ago

If I was going to use the transmute ability of a Dimir Infiltrator the converted mana cost is 2 correct or does it have to be a blue and a black?

It is a cmc of 3 to transmute. You have to pay 1 colorless, 1 black, and 1 blue mana to transmute, just like you have to pay 1 blue and 1 black to cast it. If it was an either/or situation, it would have a hybrid mana symbol.

The card you search for only has to have a CMC of 2, it's colors don't matter.

"Converted mana cost" is the number you get when you add up the value of all the symbols in the mana cost. For Dimir Infiltrator that number is 2, so you can get anything that costs a total of 2 mana.

@Chubbub: He's asking about what cards he's allowed to search for, not the activation cost of the Transmute ability.

Ohhhh, sorry about that. I thought he meant the cmc of the transmute cost.

Transmute can find any card that is of converted mana cost equal to the card it's on (in the case of the infiltrator that's two), regardless of color.

It's quite a versatile ability, I wish it was on more or better cards.
