before i looked at the question i was like "is this kid really trying to make a Platinum Emperion as his general in a deck??" but when i looked at the question it was a question i asked myself yesterday. but yeah, you can still lose to general damage because well i'll just make this simple instead of noobs copying and pasting stuff to increase their T/O rank:
Because Platinum Emperion makes you not lose life, it also cannot prevent General Damage, the ruling for general damage goes something on the lines of "When a general hits you, you don't lose life out of your 40 you take general damage as opposed to poison counters, if you get 21 general counters (ex) you lose. Simple right?

I don't remember any rule saying you don't lose life from your 40 because of general damage.

In my meta (so i assume it is true) during the MTG commander launch pty, when we played, the commander damage does not get taken away from the 40, they said the general damage is ununified and stays as a unique damage type as i said as opposed to poison counters. but then again i may be wrong. i just go aling with my meta not tappedout.

then again this is platinum emperion were talking about so you don't lose life from the 40. but the general damage goes in.

Yes, you could still lose to general damage. Platinum Emperion replaces what happens to damage: Instead of reducing your life total, damage dealt to you simply won't reduce your life total. That damage is still dealt, and any effects or rules (such as the general damage rule) will see it and act accordingly. If a general deals 21 damage to you, you will still lose, even if your life total never changes.
For extra clarity, have an oracle ruling on Platinum Emperion.
1/1/2011: The ability doesn't prevent damage. Rather, it changes the results of that damage. For example, if a creature with lifelink deals damage to you, you won't lose any life, but its controller will still gain that much life. Similarly, if a creature you control with lifelink deals damage to another player, that player will lose life but you won't gain any life. Notably, if a creature with infect deals damage to you, you'll get that many poison counters.
