Planeswalkers and Goaded Creatures

Asked by Swebb87 1 year ago

Hi, it's my turn and my attack phase, my creature is goaded by opponent #1, also in the game are opponent #2 & opponent #3. Opponent #1 has a planeswalker in play. Q: can I choose to attack their planeswalker, or do I have to attack opponents #2 & #3?

Thanks

Assuming there are no other effects, you will be unable to attack the planeswalker.

701.38b Goaded is a designation a permanent can have. A goaded creature attacks each combat if able and attacks a player other than the controller of the permanent, spell, or ability that caused it to be goaded if able. Goaded is neither an ability nor part of the permanent’s copiable values.

However, there are a few exceptions that are covered here: https://tappedout.net/mtg-questions/goad-with-baird-steward-of-argive/
