Phyrexian Reclamation in EDH
Asked by PandaRob91 9 years ago
So let's say my commander dies and I have Phyrexian Reclamation on the battlefield, can I activate it to re-summon my commander? Or would that not work since the commander goes in neither your hand or graveyard. If I answered my own question, let me know as well.

So basically it's a free cast if I opt to graveyard it and then trigger Phyrexian to put it in my hand and then to the battlefield?

Or since it goes into my hand, would I have to pay it's normal mana cost?

All Phyrexian Reclamation does is put cards in your graveyard into your hand. You still have to cast them like normal.
But say you cast your commander which cost 3, and it went back to the command zone, to cast it again costs 5, then you let it go to the graveyard and put it in your hand. You can cast it from your hand for 3, rather than 7, and if it then dies and goes back to the command zone, the next cast from there costs 7 rather than 9.

Link all cards in your question, please.
Note also that if Phyrexian Reclamation gets removed or the ability countered, your commander will remain in your graveyard and you won't be able to put it back into the command zone right away. You can only move it to the command zone when it would go through a zone change.

You have the -option- when your Commander would enter the hand, library, graveyard or exile, to replace that event with moving the Commander to the Command zone.
You can absolutely let it go to the Graveyard like any other creature, and then use Phyrexian Reclamation to put it into your hand and cast it.
Note, since you aren't casting it from the Command Zone, you neither have to pay previous "commander tax" mana, nor does it count as an additional cast for future command zone casts.
