Phyrexian metamorph
Asked by Shane 12 years ago
There is only one possible target for phyrexian metamorph when oppenent plays it. On the stack of the cast I destroy the target. Will phyrexian metamorphic enter as a 0/0? What if there are multiple thing opponent can copy, is there any way I can cause him to play a 0/0? (note- I know it doesn't say target)

The controller of Phyrexian Metamorph doesn't choose what to copy until the spell actually starts to resolve, because the ability is a replacement effect that gets applied as it enters the battlefield. At that point, it's too late to respond, because no one can play spells or abilities in the middle of something resolving. The only way to force a Metamorph to come in as a 0/0 is to clear every creature from the board in response to your opponent casting the Metamorph spell.

alucardbelmont is correct.
The owner of the Metamorph doesn't choose what it is copying until it resolves. While it's on the stack, the owner does not choose anything. If there s only one copiable card on the field, it becomes pretty obvious what the Metamorph will be, and you can destroy the one permanent it could target making it enter as a 0/0. If there are multiple cards it could target, there is not way to do so unless you destroy/remove (whatever) all of them.

While Phyrexian Metamorph
is on the stack, he is not entering the battlefield per say
Once he resolves, he enters the battlefield (or resolves) as a copy of whatever creature or artifact that is on the field that the player wants to copy, then it is too late to respond.
The opponent does not have to say what he is copying when cast. But if there is no creatures on the battlefield or artifacts it turns into a 0/0 then dies.
