Panharmonicon - how do triggered abilities stack

Asked by Chandrian 7 years ago

One of the new cards in the Kaladesh set is Panharmonicon:

Panharmonicon 4

Artifact [Rare]

If an artifact or creature entering the battlefield causes a triggered ability you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time.

It is not a legendary artifact, so you can have multiples of it on the field and that's where my question comes in:

If I have 2 Panharmonicons in play, I play something with an ETB ability, let's take as example Acidic Slime -> how many ETB effects do I have?

The way I count it is: you get 1 from the creature ETB, then it's copied by the first and the second Panharmonicon, both these Panharmonicons then each trigger eachother once more, which would give a grand total of 5 times the ETB effect... Am I correct?

No - Acidic Slime entering the battlefield causes it's ETB ability to trigger, then each Panpharmaceuticalpandemoniumpreparate causes the ETB ability to trigger an additional time - if you have 2 of them, it triggers two additional times, for a total of three times.

Note that Panfluteharmonicon only triggers if a creature entering the battlefield causes an ability to trigger, not if that ability is triggered by anything else (such as another Phantastinomicron)

As this card is not released yet, as always, there may be rule updates.

Panharmonicon doesn't have a triggered ability. It has a static ability that always functions.

603.1. Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as [Trigger condition], [effect], and begin with the word "when," "whenever,"or "at." They can also be expressed as "[When/Whenever/At] [trigger event], [effect]."

604.1. Static abilities do something all the time rather than being activated or triggered. They are written as statements, and theyre simply true.

When Acidic Slime enters the battlefield, its ETB ability will trigger, and will then trigger 2 additional times due to the static ability from both Panharmonicons.
