Necropolis Regent - die or live?

So if you have Necropolis Regent on the battlefield, and you attack with a 3/3 against an opponent's 3/3, at what point will 3x +1/+1 counters be added to your creature making it a 6/6.. (will your creature live due to gaining +3/+3 or will it die?)

If the creature is blocked then never.

Regent only works if the creature deals damage to the player.

Necropolis Regent 's ability only triggers if you deal combat damage to a player. Let's say for the sake of example that you attacked with a 4/3 trample and your opponent blocked with a 3/3. You would deal 1 damage to the defending player, but each creature would be dealt lethal damage. Necropolis Regent 's ability will trigger for the 4/3, but state-based actions will put it into the graveyard before the triggered ability is even put onto the stack.
