Mutavault and walls

Asked by kram130 13 years ago

if MutavaultMTG Card: Mutavault becomes a creature with all creature types, it cant attack because it's a wall.. right?

Mutavault can attack. Wall basically used to mean it had defender, but since has been declared a super type, similar to legendary.

I believe so. Even though it doesnt gain Defender, a lot of the older cards state that walls cant attack.

Burkek is correct. It can still attack

Changing a creature's type no longer affects whether it can attack. A Wall that becomes a non-Wall will still have the defender ability. Likewise, a non-Wall that becomes a Wall won't have the defender ability.

The wall creature type no longer has the built-in rules baggage that automatically means it can't attack. The rules about that were changed when the defender keyword ability was first introduced. If a creature has the wall type, but doesn't have defender, it can attack.

burkek is right, except that Wall isn't a supertype, it's a creature type, which is a subtype.

205.4a A card can also have one or more supertypes. These are printed directly before its card types. The supertypes are basic, legendary, ongoing, snow, and world.

205.3b Subtypes of each card type except plane are always single words and are listed after a long dash. Each word after the dash is a separate subtype; such objects may have multiple types. Subtypes of planes are also listed after a long dash, but may be multiple words; all words after the dash are, collectively, a single subtype.
