Mishra and Master Transmuter!

Asked by Jace_Nalaar 13 years ago

Hey. Just need a bit of clarification on something Id like to think is all in the text.

If Master Transmuter's ability resolves and you put an artifact card from hand into play, does that count as "PLAYING" a card, or just putting?

tl;dr- Will "Put into play" effects trigger "If you play a [card]" effects?

My guess is no.

Master Transmuter Elsewhere Flask

Using Elsewhere Flask as an example.

Anytime you have an ability that says to "put a card into play" and you have a card that has a "when comes into play" ability, it doesn't matter if you cast that card or used an ability to have it come into play.

So if you were to use the Master Transmuter 's ability to put the Elsewhere Flask into play, you would still get to draw the card.

The only time this doesn't apply is if you have a card that says "Whenever you cast this card"...

"putting into play" and "putting onto the battlefield" effects will trigger "enters the battlefield" effects, since the permanent is still entering the battlefield. However, it will not trigger "when you play" or "when you cast" effects. Those abilities trigger only when you specifically cast the card as a spell.

In this case, anything that comes in from Master Transmuter will not trigger Mishra, Artificer Prodigy , as you did not cast the card.
