Mikaeus the Un-hallowed? More like Mikeus the Mostly-Useless.

If Mikaeus, the UnhallowedMTG Card: Mikaeus, the Unhallowed grants all your non-humans undying and +1/+1, won't that make undying not trigger? If this isn't the case, do "buffs" from other creatures not count as +1/+1 counters at all?

(You would think wizards would have that of a better way of handling this, I mean, eyeball counters? Come, on.)

A static effect such as Mikaeus's +1/+1 buff are not counters. Counters are a separate effect entirely. So no mikaeus is not useless. In fact it's pretty effective as it eliminates humans gives your creatures a constant buff and makes them annoying to get rid of.

An effect does not involve counters of any kind unless it specifically uses the word "counter." In this case, Mikaeus gives a static +1/+1 buff to non-human creatures you control. This effect does not put counters on those creatures. Therefore, Undying will work for each of them so long as they don't have any +1/+1 counters from other sources.
