Mana Drain vs. Bestow

This is an interesting little issue I came across recently. Does Mana Drain target the cost required at the time of casting, or the printed value in the corner? Like if someone tried to bestow a [[Hopeful Eidolon] and I Mana Drain ed it, would I get 1 or 4 mana at the beginning of my next main phase?

It gives mana equal to the CMC of the card. The CMC doesn't change, regardless of what you pay for the spell. Using Mana drain on a hopeful Eidolon will net you 1.

Card Text:Counter target spell. At the beginning of your next main phase, add Variable Colorless to your mana pool, where X is that spell's converted mana cost.

Oh it does say that on the gatherer doesn't it. Sorry I was looking at the card, where it just says casting cost, so I got somewhat confused.
