Maelstrom Angel and bestow?

Asked by Triforce-Finder 11 years ago

If I use maelstrom angels effect to cast a creature card that has bestow without paying its mana cost, can I choose to cast it for the bestow cost, then not pay that cost and still use it as Aura?

Darn, of course I meant to write "Maelstrom Archangel ".

No.

When an effect allows you to cast a spell without paying that spell's mana cost, the effect is actually establishing an alternate cost for that spell. Bestow is also an alternate casting cost. You may only pay one alternate cost per spell. Because Maelstrom Archangel 's ability only allows you to cast a nonland card from your hand if you use the alternate cost the ability outlines, you can't use another alternate cost. You're forced to cast the spell without paying its mana cost or not cast the spell at all. That means you can't bestow the card, and it can't be an aura.
