Life's Legacy + Words of Wilding mtg

Asked by Jdvanliew 9 years ago

Can you cast Life's Legacy after paying for Words of Wilding a couple of times and get triggers in response to every card drawn? For example, sac a creature with power 3 and get to make 6 bears (2x3), or does it only trigger once?

Triggers don't respond to anything. They just are. "Respond" is normally used to denote an action a player takes when given priority with an object on the stack. This scenario doesn't involve triggers, either. We have a spell and some replacement effects.

Words of Wilding's ability creates a replacement effect that applies the next time you would draw a card. Multiple replacement effects will apply to multiple draws (one per draw).

10/4/2004: If multiple Words have been used prior to drawing a card, then you can choose which one to apply (and use up) each time you draw a card.

If you sacrifice a creature with power three to Life's Legacy, you can get a maximum of three tokens from Words of Wilding. You can't get more than that because you would only draw three cards.

Also, you don't need to put "mtg" in your question. We're going to assume that it's about Magic.

Each activation of Words of Wilding will only end up replacing one card draw. That is:

  • If you activate Words once and cast Life's Legacy, you'll get 1 Bear and draw 2 cards
  • If you activate Words twice and cast Life's Legacy, you'll get 2 Bears and draw 1 card
  • If you activate Words three times and cast Life's Legacy, you'll get 3 Bears and no cards

This is because Words of Wilding's effect is a replacement effect (has "as/with/instead/prevent" somewhere in the text), not a triggered ability (starts with "when/whenever/at"). If an event is replaced then it never happens. The replacement event happens instead. When the first card draw is replaced by one Words effect, the other Words effects you've created will have to wait around until the next draw that would happen this turn.
