Leyline of the void and commander rules change
Asked by Gontilordofmtg 4 years ago
The new commander rules state that if a commander dies, it goes to the graveyard before you may bring it back to the command zone, but leyline of the void would exile it as soon as it enters the graveyard. Can you still get your commander back?
wow tylord you knew the answer to cjdj's question exactly that was pro style haha

Riphaeus, you can also link users sitewide, by adding those brackets to "user:Riphaeus"

SquirrelPenguin: you actually don't even need the "user:" part.

For future reference, you can link a card's image by surrounding the card's name with two brackets, "[". This works sitewide.
To your question, the new rules also allow you to move your commander to the commander zone from exile, so your commander will not be stuck in exile.
The new rules for moving your commander from the graveyard or exile are a lot like the rules for tokens ceasing to exist in those zones. When state-based actions are checked, if your commander is in either of those zones and wasn't there the last time state-based actions were checked, you may move it to the command zone. In your example, your commander would be in exile, so you can choose to put it back into the command zone.
One last point to clear up, Leyline of the Void doesn't exile cards as soon as they hit the graveyard. Void has a replacement effect, so a card that is going to the graveyard never hits the graveyard. Rather, it is just exiled.
Hope this helps!!
