Land discard from Magmatic Insight.

I want to add Magmatic Insight to my mardu deck, but I'm having trouble understanding exactly which land can I discard. Can I discard a land that's already on the field or does it have to be from my hand?

Discarding always means put a card from your hand into your graveyard. For the purpose of MAgmatic Insight, that can be any card with the type "Land" (regardless of any other types it may have).

You would discard land from your hand.

Land that is already on the field would be used as an additional cost in spells that require you to sacrifice land such as Shard Volley
