Knowledge Pool ruling - exiling casted cards?
Asked by Wah6313 14 years ago
The card states that if you were to cast a card, exile it. If they do, choose a nonland card exiled by Knowledge Pool and cast it. My question is what happens with the card exiled from the hand? Does it go onto Knowledge Pool or is it simply exiled?
To be 100% accurate, there is no such thing as a "knowledge pool." All cards exiled by Knowledge Pool are just exiled. The only thing that matters is how they are exiled.
You said it yourself: "choose a nonland card exiled by Knowledge Pool and cast it." Since the card from your hand that you casted was exiled by Knowledge Pool 's second ability, it is eligible to be a card you can cast.

When you cast a card from your hand, it does not resolve and is exiled into Knowledge Pool instead. Then, you choose another card from within knowledge pool to cast in replace of the card you just exiled. In this way, there is a basic balance in that one card goes in and one card leaves knowledge pool. At least most of the time.
Also, note that spells cast only trigger knowledge pool when it is cast from the player's hand. This is important for cards that are cast from somewhere else, such as the graveyard (Roar of the Wurm 's flashback) or from the exiled (imprint mechanic).

I didn't mean there was " A knowledge pool" it was just a simpler way of saying it.

I know what you meant, but being precise actually makes the answer easier to understand.
And as thaimaishuu stated, cards cast from anywhere other than a player's hand will not be exiled by Knowledge Pool (such as cards cast because of Galvanoth ).

It goes in the Knowledge Pool with the other cards exiled, and you can later cast it by casting and exiling another spell with knowledge pool.
