Karn Liberated??

Asked by Sov92 11 years ago

Ok I find a few things about Karn Liberated confusing. Ok so his ultimate ability states

-14 Restart the game, leaving in exile all non-Aura permanent cards exiled with Karn Liberated. Then put those cards onto the battlefield under your control.

I am mostly confused about how this card interacts with itself and potentially other copies of Karn Liberated . I am going to put a few scenarios out there to better describe what I am confused about.

Ok so I use the +4 ability to exile a few things. A few turns after this happening I draw another Karn Liberated so now I have 1 on the field and one in my hand. So I have the one on the field use the -3 ability to exile himself. I play the Karn Liberated that was chilling in my hand now and a few turns later I get to use the -14 ability. Would cards from the first Karn Liberated that exiled himself come back into play?

Ok lets give that last scenario another twist and lets say my opponent has Karn Liberated as well and decides to play it. They get it to its peak point of awesomeness and uses the -14 ability. Do the cards exiled with my Karn Liberated come back into play as well under his/her control?

Can someone explain this to me and maybe find me one of the comprehensive rules that would address this?

Whenever a card references its own name in rules text It refers to only that individual card, unless it says "a card named X"

If you exile your own Karn, anything it exiled is gone forever. The game knows which cards were exiled by which Karn, and only return the ones that specific Karn exiled.

Karn Liberated 's final ability is a linked ability that is linked with the first ability and with the second ability. Only cards exiled by a specific Karn Liberated are subject to the effect of that specific Karn Liberated 's final ability.

607.2b If an object has an ability printed on it that generates a replacement effect which causes one or more cards to be exiled and an ability printed on it that refers either to "the exiled cards" or to cards exiled with "[this object]," these abilities are linked. The second ability refers only to cards in the exile zone that were put there as a direct result of a replacement event caused by the first ability.
