Kalonian Hydra + Biomass Mutation

Asked by goldzero10 11 years ago

When you attack with Kalonian Hydra his attack doubles the counters it has. If you were to play biomass mutation for +5/5 before the attack phase, does the hydra get to keep the extra 5/5 counters that it gained on the attack?

I.E. Hydra is 4/4, Biomass for +5/5, Hydra is 9/9. Attacks for 18/18 and loses 5/5 going back to a 13/13.

Biomass Mutation changes the power and toughness of creatures to X/X where X is what you chose when you cast the spell. It doesn't give PLUS any power or toughness, nor does it interact in any way with counters.

If you had a 0/0 Kalonian Hydra with 4 +1/+1 counters on it and used Biomass Mutation to make it a 5/5, it would be a 5/5 with 4 +1/+1 counters on it. Those counters would double to 8 counters, and at the end of the turn, when Biomass Mutation 's effect wore off you'd be back to a 0/0 hydra with 8 +1/+1 counter on it.

It's 4/4, Biomass to 9/9, Attacks, doubling counters from 4 to 8 making it a 13/13, at end of turn, it goes back to 8/8

Please tag all cards in your question. Kalonian Hydra Biomass Mutation

Biomass Mutation does not add any counters to creatures, it just sets their power and toughness.
