Kaldra compleat and creatures blocking it
Asked by Monomanamaniac 3 years ago
So my question concerns Kaldra Compleat and how a creature equipped with it can deal damage. So this is a 2 part question. first scenario i attack with my creature, and they block, can i assign 1 damage to it, exiling it, then assign the rest of the damage to the opponent with the trample ability. Second scenario, opponent blocks with multiple creatures, can i assign 1 damage to each of them save exile both of them

In case you're wondering: the abilities of Sword of Kaldra being reproduced here have always had the issues described in Neotrup's answer. The exile effect looks pretty impressive, but in practice is actually kind of narrow, especially with the +5/+5 bonus causing most opposing creatures to die before they get exiled.

Thanks guys, that definitely helps. The exile effect is not completely useless. If your creature has double strike, the effect becomes a lot more interesting. It's a way to deal with indestructible, and with trample you'll still get the second attack in.

No, you must assign lethal damage to a creature before you can deal damage to the next creature or player. This means either damage equal to the creatures toughness, or 1 damage from a creature with deathtouch.
As another note, if the equipped creature deals lethal damage, the creature dealt damage will be placed into the graveyard as a state based action be DC or the triggered ability has a chance to resolve, so it won't be able to find the creature to exile it.
