Jace, Architect of Thought -2 ability

Asked by chandlerwrx06 11 years ago

So, "-2 : Reveal the top three cards of your library. An opponent separates them into two piles. Put one pile into your hand and the other on the bottom of your library in any order."

You do his -2, after revealing them, does your opponent put them face down or face up?I have run into this problem durring a few games. If they are face up, its completely broken for the caster due to knowing that you basically get to pick which card(s) you want. If it is face-down, then it becomes a complete mental game (which would fit to the blue aspect).

So While this may be a dumb question, I could not find any rulings in my limited search.(limited due to blocked sites at work lol)

Thank you in advance!

Its face-up.

The ability says the cards are revealed, then separated. Nowhere does the ability say the cards are ever turned face down, so they remain face up throughout the resolution.

10/1/2012: You pick one of your opponents when Jace's second ability resolves. The ability doesn't target that opponent. All players may see the revealed cards and offer opinions. You (not your opponent) choose which pile is put into your hand and which pile is put on the bottom of your library.

It's not really that broken considering it's 3 cards revealed for -2 loyalty.

Yeah but with the opponent choosing which cards go in which pile, situationally it can give you some idea of what they may have in their hand (i.e. removal, counter, etc) And if for some reason they allow you to have say AEtherling and Haunted Plate Mail in a pile and a land in the other chances are theyre confident they can counter it or remove them somehow.
All be it Jace, Architect of Thought 's ultimate is incredible, I think the things you can do with just his -2 can be game changing. If I drop him, -2 him and the opponent kills him I have still drawn card(s), got a feel for what his hand/deck looks like, and saved myself from a turn of damage,

So maybe 'broken' isnt the right term, but Im just surprised I dont see this more in game play.
