Impending copies!

Asked by proterran98 2 months ago

I play Overlord of the Mistmoors for his impending cost. I then use Yenna, Redtooth Regent ability to copy the overlord. Is the copy token a creature? If not does it have time counters on it?

The copy will be a creature. As the copy was not cast for its impending cost (since it wasn't cast at all), it will not have time counters on it. In addition, its type being changed by an effect is not a copiable value - see Rule 707.2:

. . . The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face-down status, and by “as . . . enters” and “as . . . is turned face up” abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, counters, and stickers are not copied.
