lets say Forbidding Watchtower becomes a 1/5 creature then i use mimic vat on it do these tokens get the ability to tap for mana?

If you animate Forbidding Watchtower , it dies, and you imprint it on Mimic Vat , your Mimic Vat will produce inanimate token copies of Forbidding Watchtower . They won't be creatures, but they will have the ability to become creatures. They will be land tokens with all of the abilities of Forbidding Watchtower .

Remember that they'll still be exiled, and they still have haste.

The exile effect is a delayed triggered ability that is set up by Mimic Vat . The ability applies to any tokens the Vat creates, regardless of what they are.

Any token you populate won't be exiled because the DTA only applies to tokens made by Mimic Vat .

You could also use Mimic Vat with creatures that have leaves-the-battlefield abilities (not on-death abilities) like Thragtusk .
