If I free cast fireball, how much damage does it do?

Ran into this little issue a few days ago playing with a friend. I played Jace's Mindseeker, and wanted to play my friend's fireball, but I didn't know how much damage it did because the damage was dependent on the converted mana cost.

When you cast a spell with X in its casting cost without paying its casting cost, X=0.

Their fireball would deal 0 damage if you played it via the Mindseeker.
