How many colors are there in magic?

Asked by Dusk 9 years ago

Is there a rule or a statement which says that there are only 5 colors in magic? Can a Scuttlemutt add more colors than the usual ones?

105.1. There are five colors in the Magic game: white, blue, black, red, and green.

105.4. If a player is asked to choose a color, he or she must choose one of the five colors. "Multicolored" is not a color. Neither is "colorless."

According to Mark Rosewater, while playing a game with silver bordered cards, there are an infinite number of possible colors, so you could tap Scuttlemutt for turquoise or whatever you wanted. That is only in silver-borerded land, though, so stick to 5 colors for an actual tournament setting.

Any question you have is worth asking as long as it's genuine. We all have to learn somehow.
