How Imposing Grandeur works with MDFC commander cards?

Asked by pedroedmarcos 2 years ago

Hey there,

I was wondering cause my brother has a Valki, God of Lies  Flip edh deck. How does it work? I know that on the command zone it is a cmc 2 commander cause it will only check the front side. But what about on the battlefield when it is Tibalt?

If Valki is in play as Tibalt, Tibalt is the only side the game cares about. Therefore, your brother would draw seven cards when you cast Imposing Grandeur and his commander is on its back face.

Here's the official rule that show this best:

The converted mana cost of a modal double-faced card is based on the characteristics of the face that’s being considered. On the stack and battlefield, consider whichever face is up. In all other zones, consider only the front face. This is different than how the converted mana cost of a transforming double-faced card is determined.
