How does token creatures like manifest creatures affect Altar of the Brood

Asked by monark07 10 years ago

will a whisper wood and altar of brood combo work?

The manifest will enter the battlefield, making Altar of the Brood trigger... Turning it face up will not trigger the alter, as the creature isn't re-entering the battlefield...

"Permanent" means "an object on the battlefield". Every Manifest effect takes a card from your library and puts it onto the battlefield as a face down 2/2. Altar of the Brood and anything else that cares about such things entering the battlefield will trigger.

The way you put your question makes it sound that you think that manifests are tokens. That's not true. Tokens are created by effects that explicitly say that they put a token onto the battlefield. A manifest is a non-token creature.

I just realized I was too simplistic with my explanation. Most manifest effects go library -> battlefield, but there are a few odd ones that go exile -> battlefield instead. The point is that there's something being put onto the battlefield.
