How does Pyromancer's Goggles ability work?
Asked by DruneGrey 9 years ago
I'm trying to determine if it works like this:
Tap Pyromancer's Goggles for R
This places a delayed trigger into play maintaining reference to the floating R
If then, the goggles are destroyed, I can still cast a red instant or sorcery and copy that spell.
Is the above correct, and would the below scenario work like I hope it would?
Tap Pyromancer's Goggles for R
Use that plus a little more for Shrapnel Blast
Get a copy of blast
Go to face for 10

That's correct. Once an ability exists on the stack or once a delayed triggered ability is established, it exists independently of its source. Because the copy effect is part of a DTA rather than a regular triggered ability, the source doesn't need to be around for the ability to trigger.
