How does priority work at end step?

Asked by bfguitarhero 11 years ago

I was playing a game with someone who flashed in Boon Satyr at the end of my turn, and I (assuming I had priority) immediately killed it with a Doom Blade. He let it through, but said that I didn't have priority to cast the spell. As far as I know, whenever a spell resolves the person who's turn it is gains priority whenever a spell resolves.

So basically, if someone casts a spell during your end step, do you get priority after it resolves?

You pass your turn (passing priority). Your opponent passes till the end step, during which he casts a creature.

Creature spell resolves, and the active player (you) receives priority. You can cast spells and activate abilities. Casting a doom blade on his new creature is completely legal.

In order to move on, both players have to pass without adding anything to the stack. if one performs an action, both players will end up getting priority at least once more before the step/phase ends.

116.3a. The active player receives priority at the beginning of most steps and phases, after any turn-based actions (such as drawing a card during the draw step; see rule 703) have been dealt with and abilities that trigger at the beginning of that phase or step have been put on the stack. No player receives priority during the untap step. Players usually don't get priority during the cleanup step (see rule 514.3).

116.3b. The active player receives priority after a spell or ability (other than a mana ability) resolvesResolve: When the spell or ability on top of the stack "resolves," its instructions are followed and it has its effect. See rule 608, "Resolving Spells and Abilities."608. Resolving Spells and Abilities.116.4. If all players pass in succession (that is, if all players pass without taking any actions in between passing), the spell or ability on top of the stack resolves or, if the stack is empty, the phase or step ends.

Actually, if the stack is empty after Boon Satyr resolves, then the step ends. Priority is only continued to be passed when the stack is not empty.

@Skyfolk?!?! That is exactly wrong.

500.2. A phase or step in which players receive priority ends when the stack is empty and all players pass in succession. Simply having the stack become empty doesnt cause such a phase or step to end; all players have to pass in succession with the stack empty. Because of this, each player gets a chance to add new things to the stack before that phase or step ends.
