How does Mycosynth Lattice work in commander?

Asked by chrizzilla 11 years ago

Will it make my commander colorless? Will this mean my lands can tap for only colorless mana?

Your lands will tap for any color. EDH rules limit adding the other mana symbols to your deck. It does not stop your lands from producing what you need in game.

It will make your commander colorless, but it doesn't change the color identity of your commander, which is determined before the game begins and restricts your choice of cards and the colors of mana you can produce.

Your commander will be colorless, but the mana required to cast him will be the same. It will just be easier to do so when all your lands can tap for what ever you need. Makes for a much easier time casting 5 color spells or something like that.

@Didgeridooda: EDH rules prohibit a player from adding to his or her mana pool any colors of mana not in his or her general's color identity. If an effect would add mana of such a color to a player's mana pool, it adds that much colorless mana to that player's mana pool instead.

Ahh I thought those rules affected cards in deck, not the mana pool too. Thanks for the heads up.

They do both. Color identity affects both the deckbuilding process and actual gameplay, but in different ways.

In the deckbuilding process, you can only include in your deck cards that have a color identity within (or identical to) your general's color identity.

In gameplay, you can only have mana of a color within your general's color identity.

But it does not add mana of any color, it allows you to spend it as though it were any color.

Epochalyptik was trying to page you here, not sure if this is how or not.

Sweet it worked.

Mycosynth Lattice allows players to spend mana as though it were mana of any color. It doesn't actually change the color of that mana.

I never said otherwise.

Ok, I see where I misspoke then. Just wanted to clear that up because I like that idea for an EDH deck where the people I play with use alot of activated abilities.
