How does Krark's Thumb and Strionic Resonator interact?
Asked by fadetoblack1183 11 years ago
Specifically if I need to flip a coin, can I use Strionic Resonator to copy the trigger, and if so how many coins do I flip? I believe it is four, but want to understand how it all works, or if I have a complete misunderstanding of the cards.
You can't use Strionic Resonator to copy the replacement effect on Krark's Thumb . That ability is not a trigger, it's a replacement effect. If you copy the ability that makes you flip a coin, you'd flip 2 for the first instance and choose one result, then flip 2 coins for the second instance and choose the better result.

Like erabel said, you would have to copy the coin flip trigger though.

So I wouldn't be able to use Strionic Resonator to better my odds with cards like Fiery Gambit then?

Correct. Fiery Gambit has no triggers, and Krark's Thumb also has no triggers, so their is nothing to copy with Strionic Resonator.

To be perfectly clear: a triggered ability starts with "when", "whenever", or "at", as is explained in the reminder text on Strionic Resonator . That's why it doesn't work with Krark's Thumb .

I believe you would flip 2 coins, then ignore one. Then flip 2 coins then ignore one. You could not simply flip 4, and ignore 2.
