How does damage from card draw resolve on the stack? (Spiteful Visions + Reforge the Soul)
Asked by ProgenitorX 10 years ago
Let's say my opponent and I both have 5 life left. I have Spiteful Visions on the field and I'm in my first Main Phase. I cast Reforge the Soul to discard both our hands and have us draw 7 cards. This results in Spiteful Visions dealing 1 damage for each card.
The questions is, how is the order of the damage handled? Do my opponent and I draw cards at the same time, taking 1 damage at the same time? Or is it up to me to say my opponent draws his 7 first and takes the 7 damage before I draw mine?
I'm trying to see if this situation is always a tie or if I can put the pings on the stack in a way to cause one player to win. I'm assuming the game ends when one player reaches 0 life and the rest of the stack doesn't get to resolve. Is this assumption correct?
Thanks in advance!

The underlying idea that makes it work as GreatSword described is that Spiteful Visions 's ability is a triggered ability. You don't automatically take damage as you draw the cards. Rather, each draw creates a trigger event, and you handle the triggers when you finish resolving Reforge the Soul .

Link your cards please.
Spiteful Visions Reforge the Soul .
Spiteful Visions 's 2nd ability will trigger on every card each of you draw for a total of 14 triggers, 7 affecting you and 7 for your opponent. Since you control all these abilities, you get to choose in what order they go on the stack. The best way of course would be to put the triggers that will damage you on first, and then the ones that will damage your opponent so those will resolve first. Unless your opponent is somehow able to prevent the damage, he'll be at 0 life long before any of the other triggers get to resolve.
