Very simple question. How does the attach ability work? Why would you like to pay two black manas insted of 1 colorless?What is the difference between attach and equip?

It's the timing you can activate the abilities.
You can only activate the "Equip" ability as a sorcery (IE: in your main phase and the stack is empty)
The BB activated ability can be done at instant speed. So you can do it on your opponent's turn or in combat, for example.
