How does Blazing Shoal work? If i exile a card with a ten converted mana cost from my hand, do i have to pay ten mana for X or do i get a free "creature gets +10/+0 till the end of turn for free?

Blazing Shoal states that you may exile a red card with CMC X from your hand rather than pay Blazing Shoal's mana cost. This means that you don't have to pay mana as well.

Another Example is an algebra problem:
If X = 2, then X + X = 4.
If you exile a card your giving X a value. So that leaves +X/+0 with a definition you just plugin.

So you're saying i could exile Dragon Tyrant with Blazing Shoal and pump Glitterfang to a 11/1 on turn 1? For example?

@jackdaniels Ah, So if understand correctly, i'd still have to pay 10 mana for X?

If you cast Blazing Shoal for 5 without exiling a card, you declare you are casting the card for 5 when you cast it (You have to tap the lands first, though) and spend 7 mana from your mana pool to pay for it. If you want to exile a card to pay for it in the different way, you can cast it and declare as an additional cost you are going to exile a card with cmc 5 from your hand and you don't have to tap any lands for mana.

Its not free you exiled a creature with converted mana cost of 10 to feed it to Blazing Shoal . The card clearly state if u exile a card u don't have to pay the mana cost. X = the converted mana cost of the card exiled. When X is in the casting cost what ever u pay for X is considered part of the mana cost.
