How do the "Bringers" from Fifth Dawn work in EDH?
Asked by TheRealPeaches 12 years ago
I noticed that the mana symbols in the description box are "colorless". Does that mean that I can use, for example, Bringer of the Black Dawn , in a mono-black EDH?

Bringer of the Black Dawn only has colored mana symbols in its text box. They're colorless in the sense that they aren't printed with white, blue, black, red, and green ink, but that has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not they are "colored mana symbols."
The color identity of a card is defined by the mana symbols in its mana cost and text box as well as any color indicators that are present. Therefore, the Bringers have five-color identities and are not playable in any non-spectrum EDH decks.

Unfortunately, you can't. As Bringer of the Black Dawn has 4 other coloured symbols in its description, you can only use it in a 5-coloured EDH deck.
As long as there are any mana symbols that are not present in your EDH deck's general's colour(s), it cannot be used. Following this example, you can't use Unburial Rites in a mono-black EDH deck.
