how do Coat of Arms and Changeling ability work?
Asked by benosmash 11 years ago
lets say I'm playing a deck that has 8 creatures with the changeling ability in play (Moonglove Changeling , for Changeling ability), and my opponent has a combination of two druids and three beasts. I play Coat of Arms . How does this work out for all creatures?
To address the interaction that you seem to be looking for: Coat of Arms doesn't care how -many- types the creatures share, just that they do share one.
So when a given changeling looks around at all the creatures, they will all return "yes" to "Does this creature share at least one type with me?" But only yes once.

Each of your creatures on the Field will get +7/+7. As Devonin said, coat of arms will look at each creature and check how many creatures share a creature type with it, it will then give it the appropriate buff. The changeling ability says it shares every creature type, so each creature will get +1/+1 for each changeling (because they will always share a creature type). Each creature can only get +1/+1 from each other creature (even if they share more than 1 creature type), this is because coat of arms says "That shares at least one other creature type". Coat of arms doesn't care how many creature types are shared, as long as only 1 type is shared the buff can be applied.
Lets say you have 2 unicorn vampire tokens on the field:
Each unicorn vampire token will get +1/+1. Although they share more than 1 creature type, the buff will not stack.
If you have a regular unicorn token on the field as well:
Then the 2 unicorn vampire tokens, and the regular unicorn token will all get +2/+2 because they all share a creature type.
Starting to understand it ?
So if you have 8 creatures with changeling:
All the creatures will get +7/+7 as for each creature, there are other 7 creatures that share a creature type with it.

@PremiumCola except they also share a creature type with each of the opponent's creatures, and Coat of Arms doesn't care who controls them.
KrosanTuskers numbers are correct.

@Devonin: Yes that is correct, For some reason I didn't see the part of the question stating the opponents board state XD. Double checking those numbers, I can also confirm that those are correct.

Original answer is correct. Every creature you have sees that it shares a creature type with the other twelve creatures on board, and so all your creatures get +12/+12.

@KrazyCaley: Wow, that was strange. I was actually just reading some of your Rule Challenges. What are the chances ?

All your Changelings get +12/+12 because all 12 other creatures share a creature type with them. The druids get +9/+9 and the beasts get +10/+10 for the same reasons.
