Help the Crew !

Asked by Segala 7 years ago

Before building my crew edh deck I need some clarification on the vehicle cards.

Now i know i can crew vehicles with summoning sickness creatures thanks to cdkime, Epochalyptik.

But I still have some questions about those cards.

1 .Can you equipe a vehicle with an equipement. If the anwser is yes what happen to the equipement when the vehicle goes back to a non-creature artifact at the end of the turn ?

2 .Same as question one but with Auras.

Also can I use Skysovereign, Consul Flagship as my commander?I know it's not technically a creature but Teferi, Temporal Archmage isn't either and he can so I thought maybe (even if it doesn't say on the vehicle it can be a commander).

Question 1:

Your equipment becomes unattached from the permanent, but remains on the battlefield.

Rule 301.5c:

An Equipment thats also a creature cant equip a creature. An Equipment that loses the subtype Equipment cant equip a creature. An Equipment cant equip itself. An Equipment that equips an illegal or nonexistent permanent becomes unattached from that permanent but remains on the battlefield. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.) An Equipment cant equip more than one creature. If a spell or ability would cause an Equipment to equip more than one creature, the Equipments controller chooses which creature it equips.

Question 2:

An aura equipping an illegal target will go to the graveyard:

Rule 303.4c:

If an Aura is enchanting an illegal object or player as defined by its enchant ability and other applicable effects, the object it was attached to no longer exists, or the player it was attached to has left the game, the Aura is put into its owners graveyard. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)

And for your bonus question:

The short answer is no, you cannot. Only legendary creatures can be your commander, unless there is an ability which says otherwise, such as Teferi, Temporal Archmage.

The longer answer: Ask your playgroup. Commander's rules are flexible as it is a casual format, and many playgroups allow you to do unusual rule changes if there is some sort of justification for doing so.

The longer, longer answer: Skysovereign, Consul Flagship would make a terrible commander, as it locks you into a colourless colour identity. This means you could only play cards that do not have coloured mana costs or coloured symbols in their rules text. Vehicles really want Red and White, since there are plenty of Red/White cards that boost the power of vehicles.

Regarding your follow-up question: a commander must be a legendary creature or must specify that it can be used as your commander. Skysovereign, Consul Flagship doesn't meet either of those criteria, so it can't be your commander.

Of course, you can ask your playgroup if they'll accept Skysoverign as a house rule. But this would be an exception to the format's rules.

Edit: missed that the follow up was already answered!
